Key messages from Leadercast Winnipeg

Congratulations to JCI Winnipeg for organizing Leadercast Winnipeg at the Clarion Hotel. The keynotes speakers, Sachit Merah and Hon. Kevin Chief, were well chosen to speak on the theme 'Beyond You'.

Although I have been in business for many years and believe I embrace giving, mentoring and be as selfless as possible, I captured key messages from each of the speakers.

Andy Stanley indicated that people value and measure leadership by how much you give to other people, work for your team and empty your cup;

Dr. Henry Cloud spoke on human dynamics that drive and sustain one's influence – much of it based on trust and that a leader understands its people when they understand that you understand;

Archbishop Desmond Tutu
Arch. Desmond Tutu, with his contagious laugh, tells leaders to listen, consider the opinions of all, be servants of the people, lead and not be afraid to make hard decisions, and know when to retire;

Laura Schroff, who reached out and took a chance to trust a poor stranger, and instilled in him that one must have a dream and reach out for it;

Laura Bush who stated that leaders should not do things to be popular, to stick to one's values and principles, treat people with respect and not be demeaning;

Malcolm Gladwell

Malcolm Gladwell spoke of legitimacy which boils down to respect, treat people fairly and trust;

Randall Wallace who honed on giving, and how a leader needs to keep his word;

Bill McDermot who too spoke on dignity, respect, setting visions, celebrating victories and to always be open and agile for every situation;

... last but not least, Simon Sinek, who stated that leaders can inspire cooperation, trust and change, set the tone, have courage to take care of others, and be ready to sacrifice themselves for their people.

Thank you JCI for a great day.

Leadercast 2014 explained the importance of being a leader beyond you. This phenomenal event included speakers such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Malcolm Gladwell, Laura Bush, and many more.

I was truly inspired by many of the speakers; Andy Stanley spoke of the value of life and how it is measured in how much of it was given away (rather than by successfulness and accumulation). “I am because of you” are the words of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. He reminded us that we became who we are presently through the influence of others. Simon Sinek expressed a belief of mine, which is that leadership is not a rank, but a responsibility.

I could talk on and on about all the inspirational messages and truly moving pieces of Leadercast 2014. In this short day, Leadercast was able to open my eyes to the many ways people can be leaders beyond themselves; whether it is in their workplace or in their personal life.

This event will keep growing in popularity and will surely become more influential in years to come.

Thank you, JCI Winnipeg, for bringing this amazing event to us Winnipeggers!
